Formed in London in 2017, through a love for the weirder worlds of music; Prime Panda are a five-piece not afraid to reflect the diversity of subcultures in the city of London. Cooking up soulful, energetic and jazz infused chords mixed with intense psychedelic sounds from the keys and guitar, held together by a groove laden yet powerfully heavy rhythm section — Prime Panda presents a delectable selection of some of the newest and most sensational sounds coming out of the London music scene right now.
2019 saw the debut EP release of ‘Prime Panda Strikes Again’, receiving features on indie online radio, reviews and podcasts, whilst their single ‘Last Train’ won a Spinnup Music Showcase slot at BBC Music Introducing. Prime Panda have only shown you the tip of the bamboo, but in 2020 we’re getting to see what’s been growing in the roots; starting with their most recent release — Beyond The Sun.
Released on March 9, Beyond The Sun emulates tranquility and chaos simultaneously; combining into a flurry of colour reminiscent of Snarky Puppy and Hiatus Kaiyote. Bright and sunny synth layered on top of static guitar, chunky bass and sharp drum patterns, Prime Panda eases us into this three minute track somewhat gently; soon joined by lead vocalist Tess Williams’ radiant, clear-cut vocal melodies.
The majority of the track is clear and steady, before getting carried away in the groove of it all; mixing in distorted echoed vocals and a cacophonous explosion of guitar and keys bouncing off of every surface. Showing off each of their talents in the most unique and soulful way, Beyond The Sun is one of those songs that keeps giving you more and more right until the very end.
A crescendo of passion, creativity, and just a pure joy to listen to; Beyond The Sun shows just how much Prime Panda is capable of.
If you liked the sound of this, then go get your ears round the track here, and be sure to keep your eyes out for more soulful content from Prime Panda on Facebook and Instagram.
