MAIDA VORN -- MANIC IN ME

After an extremely busy couple of months since her release of the exceptional Face Like Thunder EP back in late April, Maida Vorn — otherwise known as Brightonian resident Mollie Clack — is back with yet another dreamy, intimate dark-pop single; Manic In Me. Released on June 5th, Maida has been working hard on this release; the title, a play on the words ‘Mannequin Me,’ this latest tune uncovers diverse themes of mental health, intimate relationships and self sabotage.

With lyrics saturated in Mannequin-esque symbolism, wrapped up in a package of an electronica combination of Kate Bush, Hayley Williams and Lorde; Manic In Me drips with emotion from the very first note. Hard, precise electronic drum rhythms are the first elements to welcome us into this intimate track; soon accompanied by rumbling, pulsing synth bass that allows you to ride a wave of sweet, empowering melodies all the way through. Maida’s vocals are sweet and light; a warm embrace of reassurance to us listeners, and showing off a delectable selection of melodies that only make you want to discover more. These factors, combined with a mellow vibe throughout make for an extremely engaging and fascinating listen.

Forever a visionary, and certainly a force to be reckoned with; Maida Vorn presents each song she creates as visceral, distinct and immensely compelling. Although a little slower and gentle than her previous releases, it’s obvious that Manic In Me was surely a conscientious brainchild; pulling elements from a deluge of varying genres and emotions to create an abstract dynamism so full of growth, heart, and awareness of feeling — showing a kind of genius and magical quality that we only read about in fairytales.
